Rod has been painting since a young age, spending his summers along the shores of Lake Superior and painting with Northern Ontario watercolour artist Julius Nagainis. Rod's works have been displayed at the Art Gallery of Algoma, the Georgetown School of Art, The National Gallery of Canada, and the Cube Gallery in Ottawa.
Rod studied architecture at Carleton University during the 90's and spent several summers on an Archaeological dig in Southern France - Lugdunum Convenarum. (St Bertrand de Comminges) creating watercolours depicting the original Roman Theatre, Forum, and Baths that existed in the 1st Century BC and AD. These works were used in the creation of a new Archaeolgical museum at Lugdunum in Southern France.
In the late 90's Rod worked with Canadian Architect Douglas Cardinal on the design of the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC, providing several watercolour renderings that were used in both the design and fund raising by the Smithsonian for the Construction of the Museum.
In 2008 several of Rod's paintings were auctioned through the University of Ottawa's Law school and proceeds used by Habitat for Humanity to build affordable housing in the National Capital Region. In 2009 and 2011 Rod's work was selected by jury and auctioned at the National Gallery of Canada's annual Timraisers event. Recent oil paintings are on exhibit and for sale at the Cube Gallery the Hospice at May Court 114 Cameron Avenue, Ottawa ON K1S 0X1 and Habitat for Humanity National Capital Region.
